Clingman's Dome & Looking Back at 2013

A quilt top given to me years ago that was made by my great aunt Ida who quilted. Very colorful.

Looking back at 2013 I find myself wondering where the year went so quickly? In January Dwayne and I took a weekend trip to Nashville and went back to the Grand Old Opry for our anniversary. We love traveling but don't get to do it very often anymore so that was a special treat.  My son (my baby) was married in April. It was a beautiful wedding at the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, TN.  I was blessed to get to spend many hours with my grandson, Case who turned 2 in July.  I keep him while his parents work and we have a blast. We did lots of fun things together throughout the year. We spent numerous hours at our camper at the lake, trips to Cade's Cove with papaw Dwayne. Case and I took Aunt Ginny to the Circle G Ranch Animal Safari in Strawberry Plains. I had never had so much or laughed so hard as that day watching Case chase pigs and chickens and be chased. I promise to take him again!  Dwayne and I also took a trip to Clingman's Dome. I surprised myself by walking all the way to the lookout tower. Not bad for a chubby girl with asthma. The air grows thin as you make your way to the tower but I took it slow and was determined to make this trip I had not made since I was a little girl with my parents. The views were breathtaking on the walk. I was proud of myself for making the trek but found myself wishing I had never let myself get so out of shape that such a walk was such an accomplishment. I really miss being in shape. Wish it was as easy getting physically fit as it is getting out of shape. Enough! My favorite hobby and pastime, fishing fell by the wayside in 2013. I didn't get to go very much and as a result was not very successful. What used to be fun and the reason I looked forward to days off is no longer. I find myself wondering if I should sell my fishing gear that is cluttering the garage. This year I don't plan to renew my fishing license in February.  My new hobby is quilting. I enjoy making pretty quilt squares. I'm still a beginner but I do enjoy it non the less.  I love making things for others and this year I made a quilt for my father in law, my son and my nephews new baby. My real estate job started out with a bang and went kaput in July when a piggyback sale fell through. I still had a few sales through October but it was a struggle all the way.  I am thankful though that I continue being able to make a living as a Realtor. In November I celebrated my second anniversary as a Home Depot employee. I love my part time job there and we have great customers at our store.
In November right before thanksgiving we were given bad news that my husband had kidney cancer but thankful it was confined to one kidney. His surgery went well and now he is back to work as he continues to recuperate. Christmas was so much fun this year watching Case open his presents as well as spending the holidays with our family.  2013 slipped out quietly as the New Year's Eve slipped in. Happy New Year!
